We all know that PE pipes come with various color-coded markings. But do you know what each different marking color actually represents? Let me explain it to you now:
1. Red marking line: PE mining pipe
Among engineering plastics, PE mining pipes boast excellent wear resistance and have attracted considerable attention. The wear resistance of PE mining pipes surpasses that of many metallic materials (such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and bronze). Under conditions of severe corrosion and high abrasion, their service life is several times longer than that of stainless steel pipes and nine times longer than that of conventional PE pipes. Moreover, compared to conventional pipes, they can improve transportation efficiency by up to 20%. PE mining pipes also exhibit outstanding flame-retardant properties and anti-static capabilities, fully meeting the standards for underground applications. Their normal service life can exceed 20 years, making them highly cost-effective.
2. Blue marking lines: PE water supply pipes, drainage pipes, and fire protection pipes
(1) PE water supply pipes: PE water supply pipes are a new product designed to replace traditional steel pipes and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) drinking water pipes. Since water supply pipelines need to withstand certain pressures, PE resins with high molecular weights and excellent mechanical properties are typically selected. Moreover, due to the superior hygiene standards of polyethylene—especially high-density polyethylene resin—this material has become a commonly used choice for manufacturing drinking water pipes. PE water supply pipes boast advantages such as low melt viscosity, good fluidity, and ease of processing, making them the preferred pipe material for countless households.
(2) PE sewage pipes: PE pipes used for wastewater discharge are the preferred pipe material for municipal engineering projects, primarily applied in wastewater treatment. Thanks to their numerous advantages across various aspects, these pipes have gradually replaced traditional pipe materials in the market. Moreover, being lightweight and easy to install and move, they are an excellent choice for wastewater disposal applications.

3. Yellow marking line: PE gas pipe
Polyethylene gas pipelines are traditional alternatives to steel and polyvinyl chloride gas pipelines. PE pipes must be able to withstand a certain level of pressure. Typically, polyethylene resins with high molecular weight and excellent mechanical properties—such as high-density polyethylene resin—are used. While HDPE resin has advantages like low tensile strength, poor pressure resistance, low rigidity, poor dimensional stability during molding, and difficult connections, it is not suitable as a material for water supply pressure pipelines. However, low-density polyethylene (LDPE), especially LLDPE resin, has become a commonly used material for gas pipelines due to its high sanitary standards. LDPE and LLDPE resins have low melt viscosity and good flowability, making them easy to process.

The above is the key to understanding the color distinctions of the marking lines—have you got it?
