Do you know what the difference is between PE water pipes and PE gas pipes?

Do you know what the difference is between PE water pipes and PE gas pipes?

I. Differences in Characteristics:

1. PE gas pipes: These pipes are highly resistant to corrosion. The molecular structure of PE pipes is exceptionally stable, offering zero electrochemical corrosion. With the exception of a few oxidizing agents, they can withstand the erosion of a wide variety of chemical media. They exhibit excellent resistance to corrosive damage; among various pipe materials, PE pipes have an extremely low corrosion rate. When conveying mineral sand and slurry, their corrosion resistance is more than four times that of steel pipes. PE pipes have a long service life due to their high molecular weight, which ensures excellent stability and resistance to aging. Under normal operating temperature and pressure conditions, the service life of PE pipes can be guaranteed for over 50 years. Additionally, PE pipes offer outstanding hygiene and environmental performance. During processing, no metal stabilizers are added to PE pipes, making the material non-toxic, free from scale buildup, and incapable of harboring bacteria. Thus, PE pipes are a safe and hygienic piping material. Moreover, PE material itself is recyclable and does not release any substances that could harm the environment.

2. PE water pipes: With their high strength, corrosion resistance, and non-toxic properties, PE water pipes are widely used in the manufacturing of water supply pipelines. Since they do not rust, they represent an ideal replacement material for conventional iron water pipes.

II. Secondly, the differences in connection methods:
1. Connection methods for PE water pipes: There are many ways to connect polyethylene pipes—among pipes themselves, between pipes and PE fittings, between pipes and accessories, and between polyethylene pipes and metal pipes. Each connection method has its own advantages and limitations. Users can select the appropriate connection method based on factors such as pipe diameter, working pressure, and the specific environment of the installation site. Among these, the most commonly used connection methods for polyethylene water pipelines in urban water supply systems include: hot-melt welding, electrofusion welding, socket-type flexible connections, flange connections, and steel-plastic transition joint connections.

2. Connection of PE gas pipes: Electrofusion welding: Use a dedicated electrofusion welder to join straight pipes to straight pipes or straight pipes to fittings. This method is mainly used for pipes with diameters of 160 mm or less. Hot-melt butt welding: Use a specialized butt-welding machine to join pipes together; this method is typically employed for pipes with diameters of 160 mm or greater. Steel-plastic connections: Connections can be made using flanges, threaded couplings, or other similar methods.

3. Different pavement markings:

1. PE water pipes: The marking line is blue.

2. PE gas pipe: The marking line is yellow.

IV. Differences in Application Scope:
1. PE water supply pipes: Used in applications such as building water supply, building drainage, underground drainage pipes, agricultural pipes, and farmland irrigation.
2. PE gas pipes: Pipeline systems for conveying liquid materials in industries such as chemical engineering, synthetic fibers, food processing, forestry, dyeing and printing, pharmaceuticals, light industry, papermaking, and metallurgy, as well as for building heating and gas transmission applications.
