Recently, some customers have been asking: How long is the service life (lifespan) of PE pipes? In fact, the service life of PE pipes is determined by a variety of factors, such as the raw materials, manufacturing processes, improper construction practices, and environmental conditions.
1. Raw Material Factors: Top-tier PE raw materials available domestically can all achieve an aging resistance of up to 50 years. However, given the varying requirements of different customers, some use PE raw materials that comply with national standards, while others opt for non-national-standard materials. Consequently, there may be differences in the specifications of the raw materials, which can, in turn, have a certain impact on the aging resistance of the PE.
2. Second, there are production process factors: During extrusion on the production line, if requirements are not strictly adhered to—for example, raw materials are used without following the prescribed mixing ratios, wall thickness tolerances exceed the specified range, or the extrusion equipment is unstable—this can result in a higher concentration of impurities inside the pipe and an uneven inner surface. Such issues can, in turn, have a certain impact on the service life of the PE material.
3. Improper construction practices:
Friction caused by improper construction practices can also lead to pipe damage and internal injury, thereby shortening the service life of PE pipes.
4. Environmental factors:
PE pipe materials Although PE pipes have excellent corrosion resistance, under particularly harsh environmental conditions—such as exposure to strong acids or strong bases, high temperatures (above 60°C), or prolonged freezing—the service life of 50 years specified in national standards refers to conditions at a temperature of 23°C. Naturally, changes in temperature will inevitably lead to a certain degree of reduction in the service life of PE pipes.
